Tonya’s entrance into the hair industry began in 1983. She graduated from Deluxe’s school of cosmetology with a double certification in hair and skin care.
Prior to opening Che Bangs Salon, Tonya worked four years with the Escondido Haircut Store, learning how to do a quality haircut, in a timely manner. Wanting to learn more and expand her technical skills, she relocated to a full service salon as a stylist/manager. She attended classes in color, highlighting and hair trends. Within a few years, Tonya established a growing clientele and became a well known stylist in the Escondido area.
In 1991, armed with the knowledge of managing a salon, she rented a space in an upscale salon and soon after, was asked to become part of Tressa’s International educational design team. Tonya continued to work full time behind the chair and traveled extensively throughout the western United States, giving lectures and hands-on classes in color, permanent waves, bleaching, highlighting and styles, to professional stylists, salon owners and students. She's also performed platform artistry at cosmetology symposiums and salon conventions.
In 2005, Tonya tested and received the American Board Hair-Colorist Certification. Establishing oneself as a Board Certified Haircolorist gives potential clients the ability to select you as a fully qualified, tested -hair-colorist - an expert in your field.
In 2007, after 24 years in the industry, armed with passion, education and business knowledge, Tonya designed, built and opened Che Bangs Salon. She brought together a dynamic team of professionals, put into place high standards of conduct, protocols and procedures, thus establishing a salon environment where clients and team members can feel respected, heard and welcomed.
In 2023 Tonya’s career path merged with the judicial system. As an expert in her field of cosmetology and its vast collective content. Her knowledge and fact based opinions are recognized as a positive contributing attribute for the legal counsel.
Tonya's dream of an expandable, fluid career has come true and continues to manifest in a progressive and positive direction.
